Lesson 6: Pregnancy For Boys And Girls

Introduction

In lesson 5 you have learned about sexual attraction, intimacy, being in a relationship and whether you are ready for sex. You learned about the importance of a healthy and safe relationship in which you support each other, respect each other’s (sexual) limits and discuss future plans.

When no protection is used, being sexually active has the risk of an unintended pregnancy. Pregnancy is a beautiful thing, especially when it happens at the right time and when the circumstances support the arrival of a baby.

In this lesson you will learn that planning to become a parent can positively contribute to other future plans. You will receive information on fertility and what the menstruation cycle has to do with this. You will also learn about family planning and the different methods to prevent an unintended pregnancy(such as condoms, birth control pill or an injection)when you are not ready yet to have a baby.

In this lesson you will learn that preventing pregnancy, using family planning methods and becoming pregnant, is always a shared responsibility: a responsibility for both girls and boys! Whether it is intended or unintended.

Finally, you will reflect on what can be done when someone’s pregnancy is unintended and what consequences and possible solutions an unplanned pregnancy can have.
