Facilitation Lesson 2 - 5

1. Introduction (5 min)

Have one of the students facilitate this part

Materials:

    - Flipchart/ black board

Aims

  • Students know what the focus and objectives of the lesson will be, and what facilitation skills will be practiced
  • Students know what is expected of their input
  • Students look back at their facilitation-homework

How

  • Have one of the students introduce the lesson plan of this facilitation lesson, and be very specific about what lessons will be practiced, and which students will carry out what activities. You can draw the lesson plan on a flipchart or blackboard to visualize.
2. Reflection on homework (15 min)
Have one of the students facilitate this part

Materials:

None

Aims

    - Students look back at their facilitation-homework

How

In the previous lessons students have made an extra homework-assignment: they have reflected on the ‘practice lessons’ from a facilitating point of view. In this activity you will reflect on that shortly.

  1. Ask the students to share in pairs for every lesson the homework questions:
    1. In your own words: what are the key issues of that lesson?
    2. What kind of facilitation skills did the teacher need to facilitate this lesson?
    3. What participatory methods were used? (per activity)
    4. What would you do the same and differently when you would be facilitating
  2. You can choose what to do next:
    1. Ask a few students what they discovered in these lessons. What was the lesson? remarkable for them? What did they learn specifically?
    2. WSWM-student structure – format practice facilitating lessons
    3. Ask if there were pending issues, unresolved questions.
    4. Ask a few students to give the right answers to all the questions (but mind the time! You only have 15 minutes for all the practice lessons)
