Friendship and support
By the end of this session students can:
- Explain that supportive and caring relationships or friendships are good for someone’s self-esteem.
- Describe the kind of support that friends can provide during adolescence and they can give it themselves.
- Describe that having friends in adolescence is important for becoming independent.
- Explain the difference between friendship and romantic love with the opposite sex.
Communication and social influence
By the end of this session students can:
- Describe the relevance of communicating openly and assertively with the people around them (being visible, confident).
- Describe that communication has a verbal and non-verbal (body language) aspect to it.
- Describe 3 aspects of assertive and clear communication and describe two aspects of their own body language.
- Describe the influence of their own environment (family, friends, peers, other people, media) on their own opinions and behaviours including gender roles.
- Describe the possible negative influence peers and friends can have during adolescence.
