Lesson 11: Exhibition

1. Generate ideas for making an exhibition

Material

Tips for preparing a presentation

Aims

  1. Students learn to present ideas to an audience.
  2. Students spread the messages they have learned to a wider audience and share what they have learned.
  3. Students work in a team and are proud of their creations.

How

Students think about the work and the message they would like to pass on to other people and what would be the best way of doing so.

  1. Individually or in small groups, students pick the most important works they want people to see or hear.
  2. Students ask themselves these questions:
    1. what is the goal of our exhibition?
    2. who is our target audience?
    3. what do we want to say and what is our best message?
    4. how will we achieve our goal?
    5. how will we reach our audience and get our message across?
  3. Students develop a plan based on their answers to these questions.
  4. Whatever the subject is, it should include the following aspects:
    1. facts
    2. students' opinions
    3. visuals
    4. banners
    5. photos

Encourage students to use the materials they have already produced and to be creative with materials they find attractive and useful! Sympathetic visuals are extremely important in getting a message across to the public. Visuals can include posters, banners, or even people-driven visuals (a short play, costumes, etc.).

Students may have learned other techniques in art classes. Encourage them to use all the ideas they have. The art teacher in the school could be very helpful in this lesson; perhaps you can ask him/her to be involved. The most important thing is: have fun, be creative - just get your work on show!
