- Explain that both girls and boys can experience sexual violence, but girls and women are more vulnerable and more often victims of abuse.
- Know that perpetrators of sexual violence and abuse are often people from the victim’s own environment and mention two tactics that perpetrators often use.
- List one situation that may easily lead to sexual abuse and know tactics to prevent and escape these situations.
- explain the emotional, psychological and physical consequences of coerced sex for the victim, especially when sex is unprotected, which is often the case.
Support
By the end of this lesson students can:
- Mention one place in the area where to find professional help and support in the case of sexual harassment, abuse, rape and how to support a victim of abuse.
- Mention one situation in which it might be challenging for someone to say NO to unwanted sex.
- Explain there are policies and laws in place (e.g. in school, government) to protect everybody against sexual harassment, abuse and violence.
- Explain that is difficult for both girls and boys to talk about experiences of sexual harassment and abuse due to shame and taboos.
